as of 10/09/15 08:02AM

Course Section Number: WS-2063-01
Title: Game of Thrones and Disability
Status: Open
Synonym: 75339
Block: Block 2: Historical & Social Interpretation
Course Description: Scholars and critics have argued that the hit HBO series Game of Thrones(and the novels on which the show is based) contain the most varied, often celebratory, depictions of characters with disabilities in all of pop culture. Others have argued that the show is not immune to stereotypical and marginalizing portrayals of disability. Using disability (as well as gender and race) as categories of analysis, this course will examine these debates and use the series as a lens through which to consider wider historical and contemporary media depictions of physical, neurological, and developmental disabilities.
